About Sawtooth Calligraphy

Calligraphy, the art of beautiful handwriting, has been around for centuries. It has evolved and adapted over time, but the allure of creating something unique and visually stunning with just a pen and paper remains constant. As the owner and calligrapher at Sawtooth Calligraphy, I had my first exposure to calligraphy in college, but was inspired to pick my pens back up after witnessing the resurgence of calligraphy on social media.  I never imagined that college class would lead me to a lifelong passion and a successful business. In 2016 I started learning pointed pen scripts which opened up a whole new world of possibilities, and I fell in love with the intricate and delicate nature of pointed pen calligraphy.

Starting Sawtooth Calligraphy was a natural progression for me. I wanted to share my love for this art form with others and help bring their visions to life through beautiful hand lettering. Sawtooth Calligraphy offers a range of services including custom wedding invitations, envelope addressing, place cards, signage, engraving, and more. It brings me immense joy to be a part of special moments in people’s lives and to know my work is part of their lifelong memories.

One of the things I love most about calligraphy is its versatility. It can be used in various ways to add a personal and artistic touch to any occasion. From traditional wedding invitations to modern and trendy event signage, calligraphy can be customized to fit any style or theme. I recently added calligraphy engraving and foiling to my repertoire, and have enjoyed working at brand activation events engraving wine, perfume, and liquor bottles and foiling leather products such as wallets and luggage tags.

Calligraphy can also be very meditative. It’s important to take a step back from the everyday frenzy and engage in activities that allow us to slow down and be in the present moment. Calligraphy provides just that – a peaceful and calming escape from the chaos of everyday life. Calligraphy is more than just a hobby or a business for me. It’s a way to connect the past, present, and future, express my creativity, and connect with others. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my passion through Sawtooth Calligraphy with clients who trust me to bring this beautiful art into their most intimate moments.

My experience in calligraphy comes from hundreds of hours of practice and education from some of the best calligraphers in the world, some of whom include:

Pat Blair, Suzanne Cunningham, Seb Lester, Kestrel Montes, Paul Antonio, Harvest Crittendon, Carrie Imai, David Grimes,

Cecila Bostich, Filip Cislak, Younghae Chung, Skyler Chubak, Michael Sull, Heather Held, Sachin Shah, and others.

Careful Attention to Detail

The smallest details can make the biggest impact. That's why I take great care in every project I undertake, from the initial consultation to the final product. Every stroke is executed with precision, ensuring that every project is flawless. Calligraphy is an art form, and I strive to create pieces that are beautiful and timeless.

Art of any kind can seem magical. As I work I imagine each recipient as they open their mailbox to a hand-lettered invitation; find their name hand-written on a place card at at their seat or on an escort wall; each word, carefully penned as a gift to the person who will receive it. The joy and awe when each person sees their name in a beautiful script, written just for them. Each piece I create is a gift to them, from me and from the person who commissioned it with them in mind.
